Fugi Ikizere

Tasting Notes: Starfruit, Apricot Green Tea, Hibiscus

Description:  This coffee comes from the Fugi washing station in the Nyaruguru District in the Southern Province of Rwanda. The Fugi washing station is run by Baho coffee and focuses on highly focused and separated micro-lots. This lot specifically is from the Ikizere Woman’s producer group which is made up of 100+ women who farm coffee locally. The coffee is meticulously processed and sorted with 8 hours of in-cherry fermentation followed by depulping and 12 hours of underwater fermentation prior to a few days of shade drying and several weeks of partially shaded drying.

Impressions: In the aroma we get bright and crisp starfruit which brings green apple and green grape-like notes up front in addition to tart red berries and hibiscus. As the cup cools, the aroma shifts a towards apricot green tea. In the taste we get the bright starfruit and hibiscus tartness, then fading into apricot and honeysuckle before finishing with green tea and hibiscus florals.
