Gesha Village Oma Natural 26/147
Tasting Notes: Bergamot, Rhubarb, Pink Guava, Rose Perfume, Star Jasmine
Description: Gesha Village is an interesting project that aims to create high end Gesha that competes with the likes of Panama Gesha near its natural source. They have 2 primary Gesha varieties they offer, one being “Gori Gesha” which replicates the genetic variety seen in the Gori Gesha forest. The other being “Gesha 1931” in which they selectively chose trees that closest resembled the genetics of current Panama Gesha. This coffee is Gesha 1931, which combined with their extremely clean natural processing results in an extremely expressive coffee with the floral intensity of Panama Gesha and the complexity of the best Ethiopian naturals.
Impressions: In the aroma while hot, we get a huge amount of perfumed rose, pink guava, rhubarb, raspberry and other red fruits. As it cools, honey, bergamot, and jasmine become more noticeable, and when fully cooled, the citrus and rhubarb dominate. The complexity really shows in the contrast between the aroma and taste. Up front, the taste is somewhat expected with moderate acidity and bright red fruit character however it doesn’t stay for long. It instantly shifts into intense and lingering florals that flood the whole palate. Tons of rose, intense sweet star jasmine, lilac, and vanilla. Truly an amazing and special coffee!
